Scare Me! Blogfest

Today is the Scare Me! Blogfest, where each participant will talk about a scary movie, scary story, scary book, and/or write their own scary story in honor of Halloween.  It isn't too late to join in the fun, just sign up in the linky below.

For my entry I will talk about a book and a movie.

Book-  Salem's Lot:  This was the scariest book I have ever read.  Stephen King is at his best in this book painting scenes that scare you to your core.  I had just graduated high school when I read this book.  I was at my grandmothers house and was reading late at night.  I was getting tired, so I put the book down.  The images King created kept running through my head.  I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep and got up and watched comedy central for an hour until I felt I could safely get to sleep.  The movie for this one is okay, but the book is super creepy and has a place on every bookshelf.
Movie:  Thirteen:  I am pretty sure you will find this one classified under the drama heading, but that just isn't true for anyone with a daughter.  This movie is the type of scary that keeps you up all night trying to come up with ideas to keep you kid from turning out like lead character Tracy.  It hits all the scary notes, drug abuse, delinquentism, sexual activity...  This story is also semi autobiographical, so it actually, somewhat, happened to the person that wrote it.  Knowing kids that went through semilar stuff growing up and this movie starts looking like something that will happen instead of could.  Sent shivers down my spine.  If I were hard pressed for a genred horror movie I would go with Event Horizon or Amityville Horror (1979).
Hope you enjoyed my entries and I can't wait to read yours.  Please stop by all the other entrants sites and enjoy their scares as well.  Please post the code on your blog with your entry.

Salem's Lot was a great horror read, but for me it was another book that took top spot. I do admire S. K though.

Thirteen, I've don't recall that one at all, but I don't have a daughter. I'll look it up online to learn more. And Amityville Horror, good choice -- paranormal is the most frightening!

I've never read any Stephen King, but I've seen so many films based on his books that I sort of feel like I have.

My post is here.

Yeah, if I was a parent, that would scare me.
Confess I've not read the book Salem's Lot, but if it's half as creepy as the movie, I'll have to add it to my list.

I also chose a vampire novel. Mine was 'The Passage.' I completely forgot about 'Salem's Lot.' I haven't read the book, but the movie terrified me.

Ooh, Stephen King is terrifying. I read The Shining once, and haven't gone back to King since. He's bit too scary for me...

Thanks for hosting the bloghop! Salem's Lot is an excellent choice (and blows away any sparkling vampire shit)!

I remember reading Salem's Lot when I was younger, but I can't remember if it scared me or not. Must not have too bad if I can't remember. I need to get it for my bookshelf though because I remember loving it.

I LOVE Salem's Lot. Totally creepy! Did you ever read The Dark Tower series? In the fifth book, "The Wolves of Calla" The priests story from Salem's Lot is continued. Plus, those are some of the most awesome books ever written!

And Thirteen FREAKED ME OUT. I HATED that movie. I have a thirteen year old, but she is the sweetest, nicest kid in the world. Those girls were just...shiver...

I used to love Stephen King, but the only book of his that actually disturbed me was Pet Cemetery. That's some creepy stuff.

Thanks for hosting the blogfest. A lot of fun.

Haha I watched Thirteen well before I had a daughter... I think I might give watching it again a miss (I've forgotten what happened in it) if it's going to give me nightmares!

I love Stephen King and Salems Lot is one of my favourites. If I had to pick one book though it would be Firestarter.

Thanks for hosting this awesome Blogfests.

Yes, I think Thirteen can scare even more than Stephen King, it is something that belongs to reality and is more likely to happen. Thank you very much and congratulations for this great Blogfest

Great selections. 'Salem's Lot is a personal favorite of mine as well.

Just finished posting my own contribution. I can't wait to see what everyone has come up with.

I haven't seen Thirteen, but I definitely agree with Salem's Lot. I wasn't a fan of the movie, really, but the book...fantastically scary. I like The Shining more, though.

This was a great blogfest idea for Halloween. I'm still making my rounds on the linky.

Your choices were excellent, btw.

Budd; is it just me, or do a lot of those links go to weird places and blogs that "no longer exist"?

good choices, Salem's lot is a real creepy one, I love the classic Vampire stories, hopefully they'll make a come back instead of the glittery ones these days.
13 I dont think I would have the same reaction, not having kids, but I am often horrified by teenagers behaviour.
Thanks for hosting the blogfest!

That's how I felt about the movie KIDS and I saw it when I was fourteen. Terrifying.
