This movie is a remake of the 1972 movie of the same name. I have not seen the '72 version so I cannot compare the two, but encourage you to do so in the comments. This was a good movie that was done very well. Top notch jobs by the director, the actors, and the crew. This one is classified as horror and I think that it fits there although there aren't any supernatural aspects. This is horror that comes from people who are pure evil.
The plot- I am sure that if you have seen the '72 version of the movie the plot is very similar, so it does lose points for originality, but it was still very fresh. I had no idea what was going to happen and it kept me guessing. It is very difficult to go into the plot without spoiling this movie. Suffice to say, two teen girls are abducted and try to escape close to on their houses.
The characters- I think it is fair to classify Krug as a true evil type character. This can often times lead to very one dimensional characters, but a motivation is given everytime he does something bad. His girl friend is the typical head over heals, a little bit crazy, but I am putting up with this because I love him. The brother is pretty one dimensional but is played very well. Mari is a typical teenager and her family is upper class. They are all well fleshed out and well acted.
Overall- This was a very suspenseful movie that had some interesting twists and really kept my interest. It is one of those movies where you ask yourself what would I do in that situation. Kiddies need to stay away from this one as it contains graphic violence including rape, nudity, profanity, and drug use. Adults that don't mind those things should be on the edge of their seats the whole time. I am actually interested in seeing the source material for this one.

I saw the original and not this version. I thought it was pretty good and didn't bother with the new one. But...based on what you're saying, I think I might check it out! Thanks Budd...
