Todd and the Book of Pure Evil

A show with a title like that, I had to check out.  Boy am I glad that I did.  Todd… comes on Fearnet.  While I don’t have Fearnet, I do have access to their free onDemand offerings.  The show is rated MA mostly for language.  It is not safe for kiddies in the least.  The show seems some weird mix between Buffy, Evil Dead, and Wayne’s World.
The premise of the show is that there is a magic book of pure evil that feeds off of emotional needs and grants the holder of the book the thing they most desire.  Not unlike the monkey’s paw, there are many unintended consequences, most ending in bloodshed and death.  Todd is the first to use the book and is saved by Jenny, whose dad went missing while investigating the book.  Todd is guided by three metal head stoners from the eighties that hang out in the high school parking lot, cryptically guiding him towards his destiny.  He also gets advice from the school janitor (Jason Mewes).  Todd’s best friend and the smartest girl in school round out the Scooby Gang.
The town seems to have a Satanic Cult and the school guidance counselor is part of it and he is trying to get the book for the cult.  He also seems to know a little about what has happened to Jenny’s dad.  The actor that plays him does a great job of being ridiculously creepy.
Overall, the show is hilarious.  It is very low budget and way over the top and doesn’t take itself seriously at all.  Every single episode has made me laugh.  Here are some examples of episodes:  1. Stupidest boy in school desires to be the smartest person in school.  The book doesn’t make him smarter, but instead creates a fog that makes everyone else dumber, dangerously so.  2. The schools only gay kid is tired of getting picked on for being gay.  He wants everyone else to know what it is like to be a gay boy in high school and every guy in the school becomes gay, except for the original boy who is now the only strait guy.  The other boys still pick on him for being different and the girls, having their boyfriends turned gay, go insane and get homicidal.

It is on SyFy UK across the water (depending on which water you're across!).

Interesting. I might check it out.

Made me think of Deathnote anime, but its definitely not the same. Deathnote was a depressing chess game with little humor around a book.
