Cowboys and Aliens- Movie Review

I don’t know, I just didn’t feel cowboys and aliens.  It was cool until they started going after the aliens and then it just seems like it fell apart and lost me.  It was like they said, let’s do this original concept and then make it 100% cliché.
Acting-  The acting was fine,  the characters did well enough in portraying their characters and giving off emotion or not depending on who they were.
The plot-  other than taking place in the wild west, clichéd alien invasion story.  This movie was sold to me as James Bond and Han Solo fight ET in True Grit directed by the guy behind iron man.  It wasn’t really that.  That would have been way cooler.
I am not going to recommend this movie.  If you think that you might want to see this movie, go check out Enemy Mine.  It will be a more constructive use of your time, in my opinion.  It was an okay movie to have on in the background, but other than the tropes, there was something missing about it that just kept it from drawing me in.

Cool concept, cool actors, piss poor execution. Biggest disappointment of the year.

"Enemy Mine" was such an excellent movie. I also happened to like "Cowboys vs. Aliens" but maybe just because everyone was so set to piss on it.

I see your criticisms and agree with most of them. It was a bit of a let down for me, admittedly, but not so much so that I didn't have a great time at the theater.

Viewing it a second time, on a small television, its faults were more glaring.

Cowboys vs Aliens was actually a remake of a movie called OUTLANDER. And when I say remake, I really mean rip-off.

Instead of Vikings it was cowboys, instead of Jim Caviziel, it was Olivia Wilde as the humanoid alien tracking the monster ones. And instead of Jack Huston we have Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford plays the John Hurt part.

Oh sure, there's some switching around of characters and their fates, and they completely ignored any literary references (Outlander's only saving grace was the references to Beowulf) (and Ron Perlman).

Cowboys and aliens had... 3D?

I guess I'm lucky I missed this one. I don't know why, but it didn't appeal to me at all.

We watched this movie last night and I give it a 2 stars out of 5. I enjoyed the beginning and the set-up. I thought the production values were good.

And then over the last half of the movie, they turned it into a video game. Pointless (and countless) aliens. No plot. Generic and pointless CGI.

This had all the hallmarks of a movie that was made by committee. Doomed to fail.
