Amazon is reporting that they will launch their own science fiction imprint.  At first this doesn’t seem like a really big deal, but then you read who is attached.  They got Stephenson and maybe a little bit of Greg Bear. That is quite the announcement that turns it from “what is the big deal, they might just be buying up self published stuff that sells well” to “wow, they signed some heavyweights.”  I shouldn’t be surprised as Amazon has been on a roll lately, but I am.  I guess we don’t have to wonder when these books will be available on kindle.
On the flip side, does this give Amazon too much power?

I'm not sure how to feel, actually. On the one hand, anything that brings books into the marketplace is a great thing, but yes, Amazon really does have a lot of power and it makes me a tiny bit nervous.

Will be interesting to see how it all plays out!
